HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s leading healthcare and premier provider of cardiovascular services, announces the acquisition of seven highly regarded and accomplished cardiologists. These well-known cardiologists bring a depth and breadth of experience enhancing the HCA Midwest Heart and Vascular Institute as it expands, providing patients in the region immediate access to top-notch, compassionate and advanced cardiovascular services. The cardiologists will practice primarily at Menorah Medical Center and Overland Park Regional Medical Center, in addition to serving Olathe and key outreach areas.
The cardiologists include: Thomas F. Baldwin, M.D.; Punit Goel, M.D.; Brian M. Friedman, M.D.; Van. L. Jones, D.O.; James L. Marcum II, M.D.; Rangarao V. Tummala, M.D.; and Andrea N. Yang, M.D.

Meet the Doctors
Dr. Thomas F. Baldwin, M.D., FACC is a board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist with Midwest Heart & Vascular Specialists in Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas, and affiliated with Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center. He has more than 30 years of experience and offers expertise in areas including acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmia, heart blockages, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and unstable angina. Baldwin performs procedures including ablations, pacemaker insertion, cardioversion, and coronary angioplasty, among others. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology and fellow and diplomat of the American College of Cardiology. He also holds membership in the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Punit Goel, M.D. FACC is a board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist with Midwest Heart & Vascular Specialists in Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas, and is affiliated with Menorah Medical Center and Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Goel has more than 20 years of experience and treats conditions including valve disease, aortic aneurysm, arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation and others. He performs procedures including ablation, non-interventional cardiology including stress testing, echocardiography, cardioversion, pacemaker implantation and testing, and diagnostic cardiac catheterization. Goel has served as an assistant professor in cardiology and co-director of the cardiology fellowship program for University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics. He has authored numerous abstracts, papers and articles, is a journal reviewer for the Journal of General Internal Medicine and a past member of the editorial board for the Journal of Invasive Cardiology. Goel is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Brian M. Friedman, M.D., FACC is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with Midwest Heart and Vascular Specialists in Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas, and is affiliated with Menorah Medical Center and Overland Park Regional Medical Center. With more than 30 years of experience, Friedman treats a wide spectrum of cardiovascular conditions which include chest pain (angina), heart attacks, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease, venous disease (varicose veins), peripheral arterial disease, pericardial disease, arrhythmias (including atrial fibrillation), hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. He performs a number of procedures that include cardiac catheterization, coronary angioplasty and stent implantation, pacemaker implantation, pericardiocentesis, venous ablation and phlebectomy. Friedman has a broad experience in reading and interpreting electrocardiograms, stress tests, echocardiograms, nuclear studies and venous duplex examinations. He has received professional honors with recognition as one of Kansas City’s Top Doctors and Outstanding Teaching Awards while on the cardiology faculty at KU Medical Center. He was an investigator in a number of Research Trials and has published numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented at local and national meetings. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Van L. Jones, D.O., FACC is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cardiologist with Midwest Heart & Vascular Specialists in Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas and is affiliated with Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park. Jones, who is also board certified in nuclear cardiology, has more than 10 years of experience. During his fellowship at Ohio University/Grandview Medical Center, he served as chief cardiology fellow. He was Director of Nuclear Cardiology while at Olathe Medical Center and served as the Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Ransom Memorial Hospital. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, American Society of Echocardiography, American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
Dr. James (Jim) L. Marcum II, M.D., FACC is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cardiologist with Midwest Heart & Vascular Specialists in Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas and is affiliated with Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center. With nearly 20 years of experience, Marcum's area of focus is general cardiology, diagnosing and treating the entire range of heart conditions including, but not limited to, chest pain, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, and cardiac rhythm abnormalities. He performs procedures including cardiac catheterization, transesophageal echocardiography, cardioversion and pacemaker insertion, among others. Marcum is a member of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Rangarao V. Tummala, M.D., FACC is a board-certified, fellowship-trained electrophysiologist with Midwest Heart & Vascular Specialists in Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas and is affiliated with Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center. He has more than 20 years of experience and performs procedures including ablation for atrial fibrillation and tachyarrhythmias, non-interventional cardiology including stress testing, echocardiography, pacemaker implantation and testing, and diagnostic cardiac catheterization. Tummala has served as principal investigator for several clinical trials to treat arrhythmias, and has published numerous professional papers and articles. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Rhythm Society and the American Heart Association.
Dr. Andrea Yang, M.D., FACC is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cardiologist with Midwest Heart and Vascular Specialists in Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas. She is affiliated with Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center. Yang offers more than 10 years of experience and is active in professional organizations including the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association (AHA). She also has served on the executive leadership team for the AHA and on the Overland Park Regional Women's Services Task Force and Medical Advisory Committee.
